The Blind Leading Blind in Education

It is almost Christmas and my blind friends wanted to go Christmas shopping. My seeing friend and I said we would take them to the mall so they could enjoy some holiday shopping.

I understand this is a busy time of year, everyone wants to rush around picking up their gifts but I was blind as to how rude and ignorant people can be when they approach a blind person.

My blind friends are a in their sixties and so they don’t travel as fast as some people. They have their walking sticks to help them manipulate obstacles. One held my elbow so I could guide him and the other held my friend’s elbow and she guided her.

As we worked our way through the mall we often had to stop to avoid being banged into by a quick moving shopper. Sometimes we didn’t have a chance to dodge them and they collided into us. Other times, someone would trip over the cane and utter some profanity.  You want them to watch where they are going?

I found that many of the stores were very cramped as they were overflowing with new things and great deals. This made it difficult to navigate for my blind friends. Then, when there was something my friend wished to buy there was the challenge of dealing with the salesclerk.

Now maybe because I have been around a blind person since I was a child I just naturally know what to do. But you would think common sense would dictate that you can’t show them something and expect them to know what you are talking about. Or tell them to just enter the chip card in the bottom of the machine.

Or hand them a pen and ask them to sign the credit card receipt. A little more guidance is needed. And since it is this man that is doing the purchasing, you should direct your words to him, not to me. If you ask me if he wants a bag, I will simply direct the question back to him. It would be much more polite to ask him to start with. Apparently, I am blind to how others interact with a blind person.

The day was saved by one little boy named Nathan. I had taken my friend to the men’s washroom but he was on his own once I got him to the door. Apparently, a man helped guide him back out once he was finished to which I am very grateful.

This man’s little boy was very curious about the blind man that his Dad was talking to and wanted to know who he was. So the man told his son to go and ask. This little boy approached my blind friend and spoke to him (not to me) and asked him his name.

My blind friend answered “My name is Cliff, what is your name?” “Nathan” said the little boy. “Nice to meet you Nathan”, said Cliff as he held out is hand. This little boy knew enough to move his hand up to Cliff’s so that they could shake.  Now that is what you do when you approach a blind person. You treat them like a person and accept that there may be some limitations that you may have to help them with.

How to Prosper Education Without Being at the Top of Class

The theme of success beyond academics is evident throughout the book. Why is this so important?

I’ve worked with entrepreneurs and start-ups companies for more than 15 years. I look at everything as if it’s a new
product from an unknown start-up. Kids are a product of their education and experiences. In the end, they need to sell
their product – their skills – to employers and customers. A start-up company isn’t about the product. It’s about the
business of that product. What makes a start-up succeed or fail is what’s wrapped around the product. Let’s face it; a lot
of really dumb products have been successful in the marketplace. The most advanced technical product with the best
features doesn’t necessarily win. Kids are the same way. Success is more about those secondary skills and talents, then
the core skill. It’s more about what’s surrounds the core talent. Just like start-ups, most people neglect to develop those
other skills and the necessary perspective for success. They focus exclusively on the core talent.

How do I help my teen or child discover her inner talents?

First, you have to find your talent and that’s a matter of trying new things. Once you know what you want to do then it’s
a matter of figuring out how to get there. Every year in school, teachers ask children what they want to be when they
grow up. I’ve never encountered a teacher who followed up by asking, “Now, how do you plan on doing that”? The
simple answer given by most kids is to go to school for it, but that’s vague and wishful thinking is not a plan. You need to
figure how to develop your core talent, and then you need to figure out what secondary talents you need to package it
up. For many, this may mean getting help from an adult or parent because kids or teens don’t work well in an ambiguous
planning task. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to plan to the end goal, the best most can do is to go from step A to step C. don’t
worry though, by the time you get to step C, you’ll be able to plan the next three steps. Unfortunately, we don’t teach
kids how to plan well.

What advice or encouragement can you give youth who are struggling in school?

School isn’t everything. School addresses one talent – academics. You need to have a basic level of education to function
in society, but not everyone is going to be Albert Einstein. There are many talents in this world. If your talent is art,
music, or sports, then you should develop that talent. Stop spending every waking minute studying, only to get B’s and
fall short. Your time is better spent developing your best talent then struggling to be mediocre at something that isn’t
your talent. What do you think would have become of Mozart if he were required to be a straight ‘A’ student before
practicing his music?

How does this book help youth?

It provides them with a different perspective on success. A lot of times we are told things as children that we just
accept and don’t challenge, only to find out later that they tricked us. One of my favorites is the saying, “It’s not
whether you win or lose that matters, it’s how you play the game”. No, really, winning matters. Who hires an attorney
who loses all his cases, or a doctor who never cures her patients? I encounter way too many entrepreneurs who believe
it’s all about effort – they’ve never learned how to compete. Instead of starting a business with the intent to win, they
start with the belief that they’ll give it the good, ole college try.

What are the changes going on in the world that makes this approach more important to our youth today?

As the world’s economies become more interconnected and globalization continues, our children and young adults will
need to function in an increasing hyper competitive business environment. They need to go beyond what’s taught in
their formal school setting to find their path to success. What they need to do is to develop those skills that
differentiate them from everyone else, even those academically talented individuals need to develop those extra skills
and reframe their thinking about success. It’s no different than a product. If all you have to compete on is price – in this
case, wages – you will lose in a price war. Those developing countries have a lower cost of living and hence a lower
wage base. If all you have is the core skill taught in formal schooling, then it becomes a feature race and anyone can
copy features. Think about the iPhone. It was popular.

What happened?

Other manufacturers copied it, as new
features were added to new versions, everyone else copied them too. Curriculum and course work can be easily
copied. Our children and youths need to develop those not-so-obvious and intangible skills that mean a lot to the end
result, but are not easily copied.

The Education Dissertations for Children’s

It is only in a united stand that the focus will provide the right guidelines. Likewise, families may be required to pay for materials, books used as part of the program and education-related fees. It is a natural reaction to bestow feelings of awe and respect upon them.

This is a great way to get firsthand information from people who you trust. Self-supportive and self-directed may be the keywords that form the basis of online education. It’s an asset which can be used a person all over his life to earn money and let his living go on.

It goes much deeper, in denoting a way of life and thinking. If you are one of those people who really want to learn a lot about computers, taking online courses may be your best bet. Public virtual schools are run by or associated with a public school system while private schools are run by an organization completely separate from the public school system.

We study not to make ourselves more knowledgeable but to get a huge amount as salary at the end of every month. For this reason, you need to make sure that you know what you are doing so that you can keep your place in the workforce. So naturally if the person has got the qualification but has got not much experience in the field then it would be difficult for him to perform.

Quaid azam Muhammad ali Jinnah had great clarity on education, as he had on several other areas. It holds a much wider perspective. Everyone will assume you graduated if you are going to college. Thus, it is always important for individuals to determine between the fake universities and the recognized ones before taking admission. Going to in-classroom driving school is really a hassle.

Most students lack time to conduct their writing and that pushes them to the far end of seeking essay writing help. Education and learning process are no exceptional. To be able to study all those things, students have to know how to chat online and how to use an email. If one notices the scholars of the world (people who have achieved great knowledge).

We see that they make their presence felt in the way they speak and the opinions they hold. An empire can only be sustained for centuries by putting an excellent civic system in place, and not by winning wars alone. Through email, chat rooms or forums, students and instructors can communicate with each other.

If you are still in school or just out of college, they are going to want to know that up front and, accordingly, what you can contribute. It is held really highly. Apart from these there are posts of administrators and vice chancellors which are also very important and they are considered as posts of real responsibility actually.

Thus, you need to make a healthy search regarding their identity like keep a track at their affiliation, faculty, administration and fee structure To ‘meet in one means that the philosopher of education must include both technical and educational philosophy of science as an integral area of academic specialization.

Some sort of mediator might be required to administer the whole process and then such hindrances can be resolved. Therefore, we can define the ‘four major problem areas that may be the basis … Just be mindful of what specifications are involved in the types of jobs for which you apply. Education today has become synonymous (rightly so) with being a well-informed, thinking person. The education covers the entire country. After registration, you will be provided with your user name and password so you can start your training.

Early Childhood Education Training an Exciting Opportunity

Being an early childhood educator can be an amazing job as you will have the skills and opportunity to help young children cultivate a love of learning and make a difference to their lives. Nursing education may involve more distance learning, and make it easier for nurses to continue their professional education.

We offer supreme quality in all the topics of our education paper and in whichever the type of an education paper you need. The courses are also offered more often than traditional classes. Self-supportive and self-directed may be the keywords that form the basis of online education. The topic should neither be too general nor too restrictive.

And because the lessons are done without the personal fees to the professional instructor, you will be able to get cheaper courses. Education not only means that getting degrees and being a topper but also having manners, good habits, confident and also being a good person to live in the society.

Is the institution offering internships or training?

We study not to make ourselves more knowledgeable but to get a huge amount as salary at the end of every month. It is not that there has been no shift. Whatever your reason is, these courses can be obtained online and offline and would surely benefit to all drivers.

Once, you acquire the knowledge regarding your course, you should find out the top institutions and universities offering the same. Almost all online universities and colleges offer the online accelerated education.

In most cases, obviously, students and recent graduates don’t have a lot of experience yet, and their education is their trump card. It is only one of the means whereby man and woman can be educated. Here a note must be given that online education is best for those who have reached the secondary level of education.

Valuable learning doesn’t have to be difficult in the age of the internet. These classes not only help you to stay on top of your game, but also they allow you to become a more marketable and competitive individual. The benefits to educating women are profound for the individual, and to local and global societies. Collecting the information about the educational courses available online is the primary job of the sites that specialize in providing that information.

If you’re a parent questioning whether it’s worth enrolling your child in a private boarding school, or if you are simply curious as to the benefits such an education could bring, read on. The core of my suggestion is that handicrafts are to be taught, not merely for productive work, but for developing the intellect of the pupils.

In the past, taking psychology continuing education courses were something that many professionals were not very enthusiastic about. This website is packed with information on where and how to find the right online driving school in your state that will give you a great deal of education.

This research deals with how patient behavior affects health, how to manage symptoms of illness, helping patients and their families cope with illness and its treatment. Government has started distance-learning programmers for such students making their life easier. There is a variety of ways that one can inquire about colleges and universities that offer internet education courses.

Just like any other research papers the education dissertations take on similar format. When a person decides to obtain further education, he or she usually thinks a lot about the field he or she wants to work in and about the institution in which he or she would like to study.

In fact, you may find that some procedures may have been updated and some of the processes you use at your job have been streamlined so that you can be more productive. They should be made aware that the list of degrees that tail an individual’s name do not mean that one is educated. Where did this spring from? Some of them attend online classes during their free time.

The Importance of a Quality Christian Education

You can also combine traditional classes to online courses that is also known as blended learning experiences. Tips are another source of income. Literary training by itself adds not an inch to one’s moral height and that character building is independent of literary training.

In a purely academic setting, students only see the teacher as a professional, whereas outside the classroom, they get to know them as an adult just like any other and should be imparted to those who are truly interested in it. But you will get online classrooms where there may be one-to-one communication between the instructor and the student.

Each school sets its own enrollment criteria. Education is something, which cannot be taken by anyone; you need to have great mindset to adapt yourself to the changes in the education system.

Your traits, your habits, what you do, what you say, the way you walk, talk, eat, deal with people all comprises your character and personality. Banking students being seen as objects of assistance; problem puts education makes them critical thinkers. They include being inexpensive, flexible, and having a shorter completion time than traditional classes.

So what is online computer education all about?

We could not deny the fact that online education environment will never completely replaced traditional way of earning a degree course. Rules have been made but how far have we succeeding in matching the ratio of educated men to that of educated women. This art was known as rhetoric.

As such students should not underscore the importance of these assignments that take various forms of education papers. Education papers require that exhaustive research is first conducted on the topic to be discussed.

Psychology continuing education courses that are offered online are very popular and accessible for professionals who are working and have a hard time squeezing in time for a traditional class. Not doing so, of course, will have worse consequences like indicating to the employer that you are hiding something or don’t pay attention to directions.

To say, in-classroom education is very important because of the hands-on training that you will get. Many cyber schools enroll students from kindergarten through grade 12, and you will typically find everyone from the average learner to special needs and gifted students in a virtual learning environment. These will teach you how to use basic word processing programs and others of the like. The days of rote learning are long gone.

Normally a financial institution will provide a reduce pace so as to get much more of one’s company. Detection of critical … Education, as they say, is the biggest investment you can make for your future. This is one part which drives many people into huge credits and debt because they are spending more than their income or what they can financially afford. Personality is the main thing that shows the background, society, and also how educated a person is.

Thus, education attained by an individual was more of a status symbol than a social necessity. But it is not correct. An anesthetic is expected to be well versed in anatomy and the functions of the skin. If you are focusing in working in a change reo you need to be committed to the change reo kappa. Where did this spring from? Online college education doesn’t have class size restrictions, and it’s significantly cheaper than attending a traditional university.

Study Abroad Mentors Needed Reflections on Gone International

UK students who studied abroad have an average 6% higher starting salary, 28% lower unemployment rate six months after graduation, and a 9% higher chance of earning a first class or upper second degree, according to this year’s Gone International report by the UK Higher Education International Unit. Yet, very few students participate in study abroad. They don’t understand the value, or they don’t think they can. In either case, the message is clear:

We need more study abroad mentors

Statistics don’t put food in your mouth or money in your pocket. The message missing from this, and other number-driven reports, is that going abroad does not automatically make you more employable: It’s what you do during study abroad that makes the difference.

No matter what the statistics say, you can achieve better results from the crowd by focusing on your goals and the benefits you will get out of study abroad. But just for fun, let’s look at what this report says for all of us interested in study abroad.

The statistics from the report I’m citing are averages. You’re going to take action to maximize the benefits of your study abroad, so you can be sure you’ll be better than average.

In particular, the report included every UK student that went abroad for the ridiculously short period of “one week or more.” Hopefully, you’re going abroad for a year, or at least a semester, so you are already in better standing.

Study abroad fans will point to the numbers in the opening paragraph (Higher income! Lower unemployment! Better grades!) as proof that study abroad has value. But before you jump to the conclusion that study abroad is going to solve all your financial needs, there is a caveat.

Students from higher socioeconomic classes were more likely to study abroad (more on that below), so the figures for study abroad graduates are already skewed to include a higher proportion of students from “advantaged” backgrounds than those from routine labor or unemployed backgrounds.

A recent ERASMUS Impact Study showed that students who chose to study abroad already scored higher in key workforce (and life) competencies before going abroad.

But both the ERASMUS study and a previous GLOSSARY study conducted in the US showed that students who went abroad improved their performance in each of the competency categories.

So, even if students who go abroad are predisposed to success, study abroad increases their advantage over other graduates.

In this job market, you can’t be content to sit on a small advantage. You should maximize it with every possibility – and that means study abroad.

If you approach college as a road map to success, not just an obstacle to clear, then study abroad is an obvious choice.

Students who are focused on their success and the best ways to invest in their growth during college are more likely to go abroad. They’ve probably read every page on this website (hey, I can hope, right?), and decided they want to seize all of the benefits of study abroad.

But what if you haven’t approached college as a deliberate road map to success?

Well, study abroad is a great place to start.

Think about it: More confident, successful, ambitious students study abroad. So, even if you don’t feel that you’re that kind of student yet, when you study abroad, you surround yourself with those kind of people.

You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, so choose to spend your time with the people who will elevate your success.

The Best Places to Study Abroad for Academic Language Proficiency Have

If you’re aiming to improve your foreign academic language proficiency, I’m going to assume you have your motivation handled. What you need most is a program that’s going to provide you with the opportunities to improve. Here are some of the best things to look for.

Small, skill-focused courses, such as “Academic Reading” are the mark of a program that will accelerate your language learning.

You’re not going to hit your goal with core language courses, alone. Look for courses that target a specific skill or type of resource. Quantity is good, too. The more courses you can take, the more constant exposure you’ll get to work toward your proficiency goals.

Use skill-specific courses, such as reading or writing, to focus on the area you most need to improve. If you want to be able to read primary sources, or even just the news, then target a reading course if you want to interview people in your new language, then listening and speaking are important.

In either case, focus your attention on academic language. Whenever you have the chance to choose a project or topic, make sure it’s in line with your goals.

If you’re working on your foreign academic language proficiency for grad school purposes, then you’ll need to learn to research in that language. Taking courses in reading or listening to specific source types can help.

In graduate school, I took both reading newspapers and translating historical Japanese. Since my program in Japanese studies covered both history and current affairs, both were useful to my research.

Maybe you want to read trade journals in your field of study, or research papers. Find the course that works for you. If that fails, see if the university will accommodate an independent study. It never hurts to ask.

A research assistant position is an engaging way to develop academic language proficiency in context.

Becoming a research assistant is one of the best extra-curricular ways to improve your academic language proficiency. Instead of studying the language, you’ll be studying in the language. You’ll be reading real academic sources and discussing them with your advisor.

Even if your role is to research sources in your own language, you can still improve. Try to present your findings in the host language and discuss them with the professor. Pay attention to the words that he or she uses and try to work those into your own speech.

These opportunities may be rare and in high demand. If you wait, you’ll certainly miss out. So, start hunting for possibilities even before you arrive, if possible, and certainly no later than orientation.

If your study abroad program has a language study resource center, plan to spend time there regularly focusing on the language skills you want to learn.

If you really want to improve academic language proficiency, classes and textbooks are not going to be enough. You need to push yourself to go beyond the requirements and syllabus. Studying abroad at a university with a language resource center will give you access to materials for self-directed, active learning.

Serious language students at my university constantly rave about our Language Development and Intercultural Studies Center. They watch Japanese movies and write their own subtitles. Or they translate music, or read current news sources.

Any student in an independent language study can be found several hours each week in the LDIC.

Tutoring is also an invaluable resource. Whether you use it to get through difficult material in your courses, or to push beyond coursework into your interest, one-on-one learning is customization for your goals.

For everything on this list, you need to take action to reap the benefits. While the university characteristics above are relatively rare, and require careful program selection, the next set of actions should be possible almost anywhere. Or at least, these should be your minimum requirements for finding a program!

Choose a content course with a small class size to maximize interaction and academic language proficiency growth.

If you meet the language requirements to take a course taught in the host language, do it! A whole semester of academic reading, writing, and speaking will push you to take your language skills to the next level. Studying alongside native speakers gives you a chance to pick up new language, and ask for help as needed.

Stick to only one course at first, unless you’re really confident in your language ability. Reading and writing assignments are going to take 2-3 times as long in another language, so you don’t want to over-commit and spend your whole study abroad studying!

You may also want to make sure your GPA is safe in advance. Your language ability will likely affect your final grade. If your study abroad credits transfer back as “pass/fail,” then you should be fine.

As I’ve stressed in several other articles, a local roommate is an invaluable resource. In this case, it’s someone you can ask for help when you come across challenges in your homework or research.

There is nothing more frustrating than coming up against a roadblock in your work and having to wait days for your next class to ask the teacher for help. If you have a local roommate who you can bounce questions off of, that problem is solved. He or she might even be willing to proof-read part of a homework assignment or critique a presentation.

Of course, you shouldn’t expect academic-level conversation every day. (That would be a pretty intense study abroad.) But every bit of interaction in your host language will help. Even social conversations can improve you ability to participate in class discussions later.

Language conversation partners are a great way to get consistent, one-on-one practice to improve your language skills.

You can find a conversation partner through an official program if your university offers one. Otherwise, you can reach out through social media groups, student clubs, or bulletin boards. If you search, you will find someone interested in your language who wants to do a language exchange.

Since there are only two of you, you can customize your conversations to each other’s needs. You can use it to help with conversation skills to speak up in class. You can also discuss your course material just to hear the words your partner uses and remember them for later. Like with your roommate, you can also ask your conversation partner to critique any class presentations in advance and help you sound more natural.

Ways to Launch Skills With Study Abroad

Academic language proficiency is the most challenging level of foreign language learning. It is not a goal for everyone, but it may be essential to your goals.

The most immediate benefit is graduate school (at home or abroad) or working abroad. If either of those interests you, read on! If you’re looking for a more casual language target, then check out the articles on how to improve social language and business language skills.

Depending on your field of study, academic language proficiency may be a requirement for graduate school admissions. From my own experience, international relations, area studies, and history graduate programs often require one or more foreign language proficiency. And of course, it’s essential to if you want to take your graduate degree abroad.

I used to manage applications for the prestigious Monk glasshouse MEXT scholarship application in Japan. I’d often have students who wanted to apply for degrees in animation or Japanese history, but we only taught those in Japanese.

I can’t count how many angry emails I got about how “unfair” it was to English speakers and asking how I expected them to learn Japanese. (As if I decided the admission criteria highhandedly).
It was too late for those applicants, but I can think of no better way than studying abroad in undergrad.

I mentioned access to graduate school programs already. Academic language proficiency will also help you perform better on language proficiency testing, which is the key to jobs abroad. (If you work for the US government, it can also earn you monthly pay bonuses!) But it’s not just about what you can get.

Academic Language Proficiency improves your ability to formulate scientific hypotheses.

Speaking multiple languages makes you smarter, too! Research has proved that bilingual students are better at formulating scientific hypotheses. So, mastering a second language is beneficial for STEM students.

Second language learning also maps skills back to your native language. It makes you better at writing and speaking in your native language. And it certainly helps you become a more effective communicator.

Finally, academic language proficiency gives you access to more resources. You’ll be able to read sources that haven’t been translated into English and keep up with developments overseas. I know, for example, that there is a large population of gamer in the US who have learned Japanese just to have access to games that never made it to the US.

If your passions or hobbies cross borders, then foreign academic language proficiency will help you get ahead of the game.

If you want to get technical, that’s the academic term for what we’re talking about. In terms of difficulty and acquisition, it comes much later than Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) that we discussed in the social language learning article.

Both are from the same theory, though, by Jim Cummings. The most important thing we need to know as learners is that academic language proficiency is a much higher goal. Do not get discouraged if it seems harder to master than regular communication. That’s natural.

Let’s be honest, mastering foreign academic language proficiency is not going to be easy. If that’s what you want to do during your study abroad, you need to decide your motivation in advance. That will be way to sticking to your goal!
